Diving into Spring: a Climate Fellowship, Book Revisions, and More

I’m hesitant to speak too soon, lest doing so break the spell, but so far 2024 has been… really good to me? Who would have thought! (Not me) True, there is a *lot* going on, and my brain feels like a hornet’s nest as I try to juggle it all. But still, after years of what I often felt to be living in limbo, it feels good to be moving forward.

Let’s run through some updates! First: a fellowship. If you’ve read my books, you know how central nature is to my life and lil environmentalist heart. What you might not know is that aside from writing books (which I have no intention of stopping, so never fear!), the thing I most want to do is join efforts to advance climate solutions and mitigate the worst effects of climate change. To that end, I’ve recently embarked upon a fellowship program that provides a deep dive into all things “climate.” Nature-based solutions (rewilding, reforestation), food and agriculture, transportation—you name it. The work is hard, but it’s also energizing as hell, and I hope to share more of what I’ve learned with you in the coming months. (And you know it’ll make its way into my writing as well. 🙂 Rewilding is already a central theme in Wildbound!)

Second: the new book. I said in January that I had finally finished a draft. So what’s next? Revise, revise, revise. Now that the heart of the thing is on the page, it’s time to make the rest good. While I still can’t make any promises yet regarding the fate of the book, I can tell you that it feels like something big to me, and I’m working as hard as I can to get it out into the world. As always, your patience and continued support even as we inch farther and farther away from Wildbound’s release means more than I can say. I will do my best to make a new book worth the wait.

Finally: a move! I won’t delve too deep into what this change means to me, but suffice to say I’m in the process of moving, and we all know how stressful (though exciting!) that process can be. Obviously, the first thing I plan to set up is my writing nook. Never underestimate the power of a good desk aesthetic on creativity.

Hang in there, friends. It may feel like the world’s on fire sometimes, but change is possible. 🌱

PS: I’m excited to share that the Wildbound ebook is on sale for only $2.99 for the entire month of April! That’s right—it costs less than a cup of coffee. If you haven’t yet read the sequel to Forestborn, would like to gift someone a copy, or simply want to support the series, consider picking up a digital copy this month!

PPS: The beautiful book arrangement pictured above was provided by South Carolina’s Middle Tyger Library, who hosted me for a wonderful event in March. Thank you to Middle Tyger and all the readers who came out—I had a blast chatting with you all! Special shoutout to Justine, who recognized me when I checked into the hotel. Thank you so much for the warm welcome. You made my whole month!
